Moms already have a lot to do in their regular everyday things, they not only play an important part in the workforce but they are our chauffeur, cook, medical technician, maid, grocery shopper, laundry service and many more things. But then add to the title Horse show Mom and now they are our weekend alarm clock. You know on those show days were you have to be at the show at 7:00 am dressed and fresh and ready to ride. That means mom got up an hour before you and was ready to feed you, drive you to the showground while you slept in the car all the way there, then once at the show she starts all the other jobs like: bookkeeper (fill out the entry forms and checks), groom (make sure all is on right and you and your horse look good before you go into the ring), photographer (running around trying to get the best picture), Tie post (when you say you’re thirsty or hungry, she gives you money then gets to stand in the sun holding your horse without you asking if she needs something and she has probably made sure your horse has had something to drink).
She also is the worry wart. Stress can take a lot out of you and trust me, when you are in that ring she is very stressed. She’s worrying about if you are on the right course, are you going to stay on, are you going to get the right distance, and so on. She is also the vet. If you or your horse gets the smallest boo-boo, she comes to the rescue. She is the organizer. When back at the stalls she is helping clean and putting away tack. Then at the end of the day when she has more dirt on her than you do, she still has to drive you home and feed you.
Forget the one day of appreciation we give to regular moms. Horse Show Mom’s should get a week. So from SunnyBows and to all Mom’s have a great day on Sunday and to all you Horse Show Mom’s have an even better week.
